Best Hot Cross Bun Recipe:
Please tell me you all know what nursery rhyme I’m speaking about! Since Easter is nearing, I’ve noticed all the local bakeries have been selling hot cross buns. Before picking up a batch, I thought, why not just make some for yourself and see what happens? Although mine don’t look as perfect as the ones in the store, I can tell you they taste just as good and are served with added love, haha!
They’re so much fun to make and very rewarding to eat. I made six rather big hot cross buns with chocolate because although I like sultanas, I only eat them alone. I wouldn’t say I like muesli, raisin bread or any other recipe that incorporates sultanas.

Instructions To Make Hot Cross Buns Easter:
Add flour, yeast, spice, and sugar in a large bowl. Heat the milk (microwave for 30 seconds) and add it to the mixture with your egg. Mix the dough with a wooden spoon until everything is combined. Then knead the dough on a well-floured surface for about 10 minutes.
Put the dough in a large oiled bowl. Then Cover it with cling wrap and allow the dough to double in size for about an hour and a half in a warm environment. (I heated the oven for about 5 minutes, turned it off and placed my bowl there. Actual bakers are probably frowning right now, sorry!).
Line the baking tray with paper. Knead the dough again on a floured surface until it’s back to its original size, and add the chocolate chips. Then divide the dough into 6 even portions. Roll them into six balls and place them on the baking tray leaving a centimetre cap in between. Then place them aside. This is the time to preheat your oven to 190ºC or 170ºC fan forced.
Mix the flour and water onto the paste until you get a play dough-like consistency. You’re supposed to pipe the mixture onto the buns, but I find it too thick and messy. I prefer rolling the paste into long sausages and simply placing it onto the buns creating a cross. It also saves you the hassle of finding a piping bag and nozzle.
Place the buns into the oven and bake them for 20 – 25 minutes. To make the glaze, I mixed brown sugar and water and heated it in the microwave for 30 seconds. After removing the buns from the oven, brush the glaze over the hot cross buns. Enjoy!.
I hope you enjoyed this post! I don’t think I have any plans for Easter; I don’t even think I have an Easter holiday, but it’s still a good excuse to eat hot cross buns!.
